Woodlawn Marketing Services is a
Melbourne-based consultancy specialising in the intelligent assessment of business risks and business opportunities for agile corporations through the use of advanced competitive intelligence techniques.

An agile corporation is one that is quick to see opportunities, is shrewd in developing short-cycle strategies, is able to meet customers' individual needs, develops a capable, flexible, project-based organisation, and is fast at learning and unlearning.
Business is about minimising risks and maximising opportunities. There are two major sources of business risk: internal and external. Internal business risks are due to weaknesses in capabilities - such as costs being too high, poor service giving rise to customer satisfaction and defection, poor inventory management, lack of innovation - to name a few. External risks come about due emerging customer trends, competitor's strategic (major) moves, new industry alliances, disruptive technologies, regulatory changes, political moves, and many more. The external risks may also include competitive price moves or new products although these are normally part of the normal day-to-day business environment and would unlikely to be classed as major business risks.
Intelligence is knowledge and foreknowledge of the world around us - the prelude to management decision and action. The growth and survival of a business depends to a large degree on how well opportunities and threats are managed, that is, the decisions that are made and the actions that take place. These days, businesses require continuous access to the best available information and technologies in order to be competitive in the global economy.
Competitive Intelligence (CI) is a structured process - using legal and ethical means - for creatively discovering, developing, and delivering timely, relevant intelligence needed by decision makers (a) wanting to make their organisation more competitive - in the eyes of the customer - and, (b) wanting to manage business risk.

it, and communicating this intelligence to decision
makers who need accurate, timely and relevant
information.
